The Socio-Economic Transformation

Transition economies offer a test case for concepts and theories, for broader ideas and for the methods of scientific enquiry, but also for the multiplicity of ideological interpretations. Designing the strategies for the transition processes and testing the theories relative to economic, social and political change constitute an unprecedented challenge to intellectual capacity of the scientific community. This volume brings together a team of leading international economists to address the major issues of transformation, institutional design, the redistribution paradigm and the macroeconomic decisions to be made.

ZBIGNIEW NAHORSKI is the Dean of the Computer Science Department, Warsaw School of Information Technology and the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Control and Cybernetics. He co-manages the EURO Working Group MODEST. He is the author of over 150 scholarly papers and four books, as well as the editor of 25 books or special issues of technical journals. JAN W. OWSINSKI is author of more than 150 scientific papers and editor of more than 20 volumes. He works mainly in data analysis methods and their applications in economics and business, as well as in other fields, including decision analysis and information retrieval systems. Together with Zbigniew Nahorski runs the international Working Group MODEST (MODelling of Economies and Societies in Transition). TOMASZ SZAPIRO has published over 120 papers, two books and a monograph. He worked as an expert for the Ministries of Finance, of Education and Treasury, as well as for the European Commission and the Fulbright Commission. Main research interests are in modelling of economic processes, theory, analysis and support for decision making, and economics of education.
