A Handbook of Corporate Governance and Social Responsibility

Aras (finance and accounting, Yildiz Technical U., Istanbul, Turkey) and Crowther (corporate social responsibility, De Montfort U., UK) share an incredibly strong dedication to research into the relationship between a firm's financial performance and its activities pertaining to social and environmental responsibilities. Together they run the Social Responsibility Research Network, edit its journal, and organize its conferences. In this volume they have brought together 39 contributions from authors based in Turkey and the UK primarily, but also from the US, Australia, China, and several countries in Europe. In the first section articles delve into various aspects of theory regarding sustainability, the social contract, and the systems-theoretic perspective. Subsequent chapters address trends in corporate governance, shareholder and stakeholder rights, risk management, globalization, and education for ethics and socially responsible behavior, among many other topics. GA?ler Aras is a professor of Finance at Yildiz Technical University, Istanbul, Turkey, and a Visiting Professor at Georgetown University McDonough School of Business. She is the founding director of The Center for Finance, Governance and Sustainability (CFGS) at YTU. She is the former Dean of the Faculty of Administrative and Economic Sciences and the Graduate School. Her research focus is on the economy and financial markets with particular emphasis on the relationship between sustainability, corporate governance, social responsibility, and corporate financial performance. She has published more than 20 books and has contributed over 200 articles in academic, business and professional journals. Her most recent co-authored books are entitled The Durable Corporation: Strategies for Sustainable Development, published by Gower, and Governance and Social Responsibility: International Perspectives. David Crowther (www.davideacrowther.com) is Professor of Corporate Social Responsibility and Head of the Centre from Research into Organisational Governance at De Montfort University, UK. He is also Chair of the Social Responsibility Research Network (www.socialresponsibility,biz) a worldwide network with over 750 members, organizer of the series of International Conferences on Corporate Social Responsibility (now in its 11th year) and editor of Social Responsibility Journal. He has published 35 books and has also contributed over 350 articles to academic, business and professional journals and to edited book collections. He has also spoken widely at conferences and seminars and acted as a consultant to a wide range of government, professional and commercial organisations. His research is into corporate social responsibility with a particular emphasis on the relationship between social, environmental and financial performance.
