McClure (history and international studies, Lees-McRae College, North Carolina) offers the first full-length account of Rublee (1868-1957), who made a series of significant contributions to political and economic problems in the US between 1910 and 1940. He was involved in domestic economic and political reform during the Progressive Era, questions of war economy and inter-Allies cooperation during World War I, and international missions between the wars that culminated in his efforts to plan the emergency evacuation of Jews from Germany in 1938. MARC ERIC MCCLURE is Assistant Professor of History and Coordinator of the International Studies Program at Lees-McRae College in North Carolina. His areas of expertise include U.S. diplomatic history and U.S. business history. He was a 1999 Hoover Presidential Scholar and a recipient of the Alfred D. Chandler Jr. Traveling Fellowship from the Harvard University Business School. His current research interests include a reappraisal of Ambassador Dwight Morrow and an examination of diplomat and financier Joseph P. Cotton.
