The Scottish Economy ─ A Living Book

There is currently more scrutiny of the Scottish economy than ever before. As a result of the ‘No’ vote in the 2014 independence referendum and the subsequent provisions of the Smith Commission, further devolution, ongoing public policy reform and social and economic debate are ongoing while a dynamic Scottish National Party under the leadership of Nicola Sturgeon is playing a huge role in the politics of the United Kingdom.

This book looks at the economy of Scotland from every angle – from the oil and gas sector to the labour market and education; from the country’s financial sector to inequality and poverty, bringing together a team of experts in their fields to provide an assessment of the current state of the nation.

In addition, a complementary website has been developed with links to key data and other sources for economic, social and statistical data for Scotland. This is updated annually.
