2D Materials

This book provides an authoritative source of information on two-dimensional materials covering a plethora of fields and subjects and outlining all two-dimensional materials in terms of their fundamental understanding, synthesis, and applications. Most reference texts covering two-dimensional materials focus specifically on graphene.

Craig Banks is a Professor in Nano and Electrochemical Technology at the Manchester Metropolitan University. His interests lie in the pursuit of studying the fundamental understanding and applications of nano-electrochemical systems based upon graphene, carbon nanotubes and nanoparticles and he has expertise in the fabrication of electrochemical configurations via screen-printing and ink-jet printing. He is known for his work on both fundamental and applied aspects of graphene electrochemistry and has published extensively on understanding electron transfer on graphene and related novel structures, such as 3D freestanding graphene foam and its application as a potential electroanalytical sensing material. Prof. Banks has published over 250 papers, 4 books, 14 book chapters, and is the lead inventor on 17 patents. He was elected as a “Highly Cited Researcher” by Thomson Reuters, putting him in the Top 1% of his field and consequently listed in the “World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds 2014” complied by Thomson Reuters. He was awarded the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Harrison–eldola Memorial Prize (2011) for his contributions to the understanding of carbon materials, specifically graphene and its application as an electrode material.

Dr. Dale A. C. Brownson is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in graphene engineering and graphene electrochemistry at The Manchester Metropolitan University. He has published over 25 papers and has contributed to numerous books. He received the RSC Ronald Belcher Award (2013) for “achievements towards the fundamental understanding of graphene as an electrode material and for contributions to the implications of this knowledge for the evolution of improved electroanalytical sensors.” Dr. Bownson’s work has focused on expanding the horizons of graphene electrochemistry, which encompasses the exploration of fundamental understanding in addition to applications in sensing and energy related devices. In addition to his fundamental interests regarding fabricating, characterizing and investigating advanced carbon (nano)materials for beneficial implementation within electrochemical devices, his other research interests include the fabrication, characterization and utilization of various other 2D (nano)materials.
