Consistent police brutality, torture and extortion by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Nigeria is a leadership failure.

• Nigeria, the most populous African Nation have their citizens extorted, assaulted, tormented, brutalized and murdered by cops who are members of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Those who survive the misconducts are yet to get justice because of judicial bureaucracies and ineffective investigative system. Nationwide demonstrations began on October 8, 2020, demanding the abrogation of a harsh police unit called the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). Accordingly, the police have shot tear gas, water cannons, and live rounds at peaceful protesters. Unconfirmed number of persons are dead and many injured.

Furthermore, fortified hooligans paid by corrupt politicians in many states in the country have tried to hijack the peaceful protest by destroying properties belonging to government agencies and citizens and looting malls and shops and attacking these peaceful protesters in an effort to prove that the citizens and victims of this brutal conduct are causing a nuisance by demanding for their civil rights to be allowed to move freely without fear of being extorted or stressed by the SARS police.
Dreads, tattoos, good cars or expensive telephones inevitably annoys SARS officers who would stop at nothing to extort civilians and failure to comply with their demands will result to beating, torture and shooting to death of innocent persons.
