Industrial Policies for Technological Upgrading in Western Balkan Countries: Economic Growth and Development

This book has three main objectives. First, to investigate the industrial policies being implemented in the three economies of the Western Balkans - Albania, North Macedonia and Kosovo. The findings are compared with Slovenia - our reference country. Second, to explore the potential of a new approach to industrial policy that focuses on supporting the national innovation system through technology upgrading and greater use of technology, which are considered vital foundations for sustainable development. The book argues that well-designed industrial policy packages, appropriate to the socio-economic circumstances and conditions of an individual country, would produce successful outcomes. The third objective of this book is to explore and measure the technological capabilities of manufacturing firms operating in these economies.
