本書譯自Schultz & Schultz(2009)的Psychology and Work Today第十版，該書可遠溯1973年，為美國各重要大學所經常採用，譯本亦在臺灣受到普遍的歡迎。後依2014年國際版再譯，惟該版不若原著完整流暢，故以增校為原則，並儘量保留了原譯。相較於另一本重要的教科書Muchinsky（2006），本書在選材上較為廣泛，含括了工程、消費等領域，在行文上較為淺顯；除了注重社會關聯與生活應用，也引證大量的調查與科學證據，整體而言，相當適合用於導論課程。事實上，本書起先就是為了非心理系學生而寫的，他們在心理學基礎上較為薄弱，但在社區學院、科技或一般大學心理系或管院選修了工業與組織、管理、人事、應用等心理學課程。對他們而言，這一本教科書必須淺顯易懂、內容完整，卻論述嚴謹、不流媚俗。本書在這個意義上堪稱佳作，立基於I/O心理學的學理與證據，卻更從實用的角度來廣泛觀察心理學在當代工作世界中的積極角色。
