Becoming Roman, Being Gallic, Staying British: Research and Excavations at Ditches `Hillfort' and Villa 1984-2006

Excavations of an Iron Age settlement in the Cotswolds of Gloustershire during the early 1980s turned up remains of a Roman villa that was not only unexpectedly early, but also very far from southeastern England where most are found. Evidence suggests occupation from the late Iron Age into the Roman period, and several phases of the Romano-British buildings reveal an unusual sequence of development for a villa in the region. Findings from those early excavations have been interpreted in light of other findings and current thinking. Among the finds described are brooches, pipeclay figurines, copper alloy, marine mollusk shells, and human remains. Distributed in North America by The David Brown Book Co.
